Denture creams are an everyday product by thousands of people in the United States, and are for the most part safe to use. For those who have been over exposed to denture creams that contain zinc, Fixodent and Poligrip to set a few examples, and considering filing a Fixodent Settlement Lawsuit, have many things to worry about. But should dying be one of those things? Well the widow and family of a man who allegedly died from the over exposure to denture cream claim that this is a serious matter.

Rodney Urbanek began to show symptoms of zinc poisoning in early 2008 when he began to have difficulty walking, months later he would be in a wheelchair due to paralysis below his waist. Gradually his health had deteriorated to the point where he was bed ridden and could not move his arms or legs. Rodney Urbanek died in May of 2008.

His widow and daughter both claim that Urbanek’s untimely death was caused to his over exposure to Poligrip, a denture cream known to contain zinc. Urbanek had been using the denture cream for 14 years without knowing its potentially dangerous side effects. In response to his death the family of Mr. Urbanek has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the maker of Poligrip GlaxoSmithKline. The family’s lawyer claims that Urbanek’s paralysis spread to his diaphragm, causing his breathing to stop.

“Rodney’s case is a troubling example of what can happen when manufacturers fail to warn consumers about the risks associated with their products,” claimed the family lawyer in a statement. He goes on to saying “The makers of these denture adhesives knew full well that high levels of zinc posed a serious threat to the health of their consumers, but did nothing.”
